When Rob's dad and step-mum came to stay over Easter we drove down to Leigh Creek, about an hour and a half out of the city, to visit this awesome medieval castle. I think it's only recently re-opened but I wouldn't know since I hadn't heard of it until Rob's brother suggested we take Violet there. To be honest it was probably geared towards kids a couple of years older than her. She's not into face painting and doesn't yet 'get' knights and princesses as well as a 5 year old. The kids in that age bracket and up were totally into it- hanging off the fences trying to get in on the action, and torturing each other on the torture equipment. Yes, that's right. They also had characters walking around acting out scenes in hilarious English accents. There was jousting and sword fighting too. Rob was pretty upset that it wasn't more realistic but as I said to him on the day, the only way it could be any more realistic would be if it stank and if the fighters were drawing blood. Neither of which would actually make the experience any more enjoyable! I think he was just mad that they only invited kids to sword fight the knights after the show. I definitely recommend going there if you get the chance and you have kids that love medieval stuff.
Rob's dad fell asleep sitting up during the sword fighting!
