Rob had the morning off so we rode our bikes down to the farmers market to buy as much fruit as we could carry home. After Rob went off to work Violet and I had some lunch, a nap and finally made it out into the late afternoon sunshine. We put down a rug in our garden and played with leaves, grass, butterflies and some wooden fruit that my friend Sam gave her for Christmas. The two halves of the fruit velcro together and the set comes with a sweet little wooden knife to 'cut' the fruit in half. Violet loves pretending to eat half a pear or an apple. I think of all the toys we took outside though, her hat (which she would not allow to stay on her head) was her favourite. She loves shaking it up and down and smacking it on the ground. Our next door neighbour's cat was basking on the warm pavement on the other side of our fence and we snuck over to peep at him. Violet made her first move towards an animal and crawled right up to him, she desperately wanted to grab his fluffy tail. There's not much that is nicer than being outside playing in the early evening in summer.
PS we're having watermelon for breakfast tomorrow!
